Home & Life Volunteer Agreement
First and foremost we welcome you to our home. We are honored to have you as our volunteers and we appreciate your
desire to devote your time towards helping Home & Life. We hope this volunteer experience is something you will remember
and cherish for the rest of your life.
1.1 Cultural Respect and Policy against Discrimination or Harassment
Volunteers must be mindful of cultural differences and be willing to adapt to Thai culture and Home & Life ways of living. In
order for us to accept you as part of the Home & Life family, you must also respect Thai culture and be willing to learn our ways.
Remember that you are guests in our community and you must be sensitive towards others. We also do not tolerate any behavior
that infringes upon a person’s being through discrimination or harassment based on race, gender, sexual orientation, color, religion,
national origin, age, or any other class protected by law.
1.2 Patience and Flexibility
Communication is very important to Home & Life. Not all of our family members speak English fluently so we ask that you work
with us. You must be patient and flexible if there are misunderstandings.
1.3 Volunteer Responsibility
As a volunteer you will be responsible for your own conduct, actions, welfare and safety. You will also share our responsibility
for the conduct, actions, welfare and safety of everyone at Home & Life, especially the children.
You need to work with us as a
team and you must be guided by us: we greatly value your enthusiasm and skills and you must value our dedication and knowledge
of the children and our culture.
We welcome your ideas and knowledge but we require that you get our permission first before
engaging in any project or activity you want to conduct on your own. It is for the benefit of everyone, especially the children, that
projects and activities are clearly organized within the framework of our home organization.
Please keep in mind that you are working
with children and so you must be conscious of your actions around them. The children at Home & Life are very interested in learning
from you and so you must be very careful to let them see only the best of actions.
1.4 Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy
You are prohibited from using, possessing, or transferring alcohol or illegal drugs while volunteering, while on Home & Life premises
or while with any Home & Life child or adult. We have a zero-tolerance policy on this and you will be asked to leave immediately if
you contravene it.
We also ban smoking as a bad example that could lead our children into a habit that will endanger their health and lives. Please
do not smoke on Home & Life premises or anywhere when accompanied by or within sight of Home & Life children. You will be
a very important influence on our children, just by your manner and actions. It is very important that you do not impart any
negative impressions on the children.
1.5 Liability Policy
We do not provide insurance, cover medical expenses, or make good any loss or damage to property. You must arrange
your own travel insurance before travelling to Thailand. You must agree to the following statement:
I HEREBY AGREE TO ACCEPT ANY AND ALL RISKS OF LOSS, THEFT, ILLNESS, INJURY AND DEATH,
AND VERIFY THIS STATEMENT BY PLACING MY INITIALS HERE ........... If there is any violation of this
agreement
and Home & Life is sued, or a claim is made against Home & Life, I agree to hold them harmless
from any and all expense and liability.
1.6 Payment Policy
Our policy requires that you must pay the fees for your expenses, as listed on our application form, upon arrival at
Home & Life. In the case that you need to leave Home & Life earlier than planned we will refund your money for those days
you are not with us. Home & Life can accept only cash and there is no ATM service nearby.
1.7 Dismissal of a Volunteer
Volunteers who do perform their duties satisfactorily or do not adhere to the policies and procedures as mentioned above are subject
to dismissal. Decisions for dismissal will be determined by Home & Life supervisory staff and discussed with the volunteer. Other
possible grounds for dismissal may include, but are not limited to, the following: theft or misuse of property, abuse or mistreatment
towards children, staff, or other volunteers, and any conduct likely to bring Home & Life into disrepute or offend those who can be
expected to support the ideas and practices of Home & Life.
I have read and understand and agree to terms of this Volunteer Agreement.
I understand that this Agreement waives important legal rights.
I have had an adequate opportunity to consider this Agreement and to obtain such legal or other advice
in regard to it as I considered advisable.
